ANU is administered by a 15-member council; the member of the council is headed by the Chancellor, the former foreign minister of Australia Gareth Evans and Vice Chancellor, in person of Brain Schmidt, an astrophysicist and a Nobel laureate.

Presently ANU has seven teaching and research colleges which are;

It is pertinent that all applicants must meet up with the English Language prerequisite,the accepted English language test in Australian National University are;

  • TOEFL, paper or internet based test
  • Cambridge
  • Pearson test of English (PTE) Academic


The necessary criteria for admission into Australian National University for post graduate coursework degree are as follows;

  • Graduate certificate: The applicant must have a 3 years’ bachelor degree from an Australian Higher Institution, while for international students,its equivalent is necessary. Applicants who does not have a first degree but has a relevant professional experience and the right to prior learning will also be eligible for admission.
  • Master’s Degree: Applicants interested in Master’s degree should possess a 4 years’ bachelor’s degree, which could be as Honours or a combined degree from an Australian higher institution, while for an international applicant, an equivalent is required.
  • Masters (research degree): The student must have completed the substitute master’s degree with a minimum of 70% average course.

Note: Degree in the college of Art and Music have additional application requirements that must be met by prospective students.
